IBM Is the World's Biggest Patent Troll

Every technology company around probably pay money to IBM relies entirely on its massive patent portfolio.
Anyone who has been paying attention knows that IBM, once the dominant force in all computerdom and technology in general has slipped more than a little. Or has it really? I think not.
People believe that the company fades. Here are some indicators:
  • The company delivered the PC business, perhaps wisely, but never well with any type of mobile device. No IBM phone, for example.
  • The name IBM used to be printed on all kinds of scales meat products to the synchronization of clocks (I have a) different types of cards, computers of all kinds, giant stores. Now it seems that everything he does is a matter wave cloud computing e-Watson 1980 an expert system with a gussied fantastic voice recognition interactive interface speak.
  • The company was himself (redemption) also purchases quickly as possible to reduce the number of outstanding shares. By reducing the number of shares of its decline in revenue still looks good on the basis of earnings per share. Everyone is doing this tour.
So, this is bad, right? If the anomaly in the history of IBM is examined, you may think differently.

IBM is a real value to people in R & D that have helped IBM lead the list of companies with the largest number of US patents granted year after year. That has never stopped growing. Last year was 7.355 patents issued to IBM (Monitoring 5072-4134 Samsung and Canon, with delivery later that Qualcomm 2900 and 2835 with Google).

The patent system is out of control as many of these patents are silly algorithm or software blocking patents for preventing others away from certain technologies. The point, however, is that IBM has been at the forefront of this package for more than two decades and shows no sign of slowing. That is unless you think 7355 is slowing from its account 2,014 7,534 patents. In 2013, he obtained a simple 6809.

These figures are exaggerated when you stop to consider that the patents were intended to protect small inventors and businesses. Now the system is used to dominate that goes low. Good work, the USPTO.

A large number of patents being IBM are on the analysis of data and so-called cognitive calculation as Watson. Which in turn includes "about" a billion dollars a year from licensing, which seems low to me. I say this because your site license, IBM claims to have 250,000 experts who will work with you to find the patent for your business.

These experts probably generate at least $ 100,000 in each company every year, I think it is conservative. They do the math and that is $ 25 billion. This makes sense when the company intends to leave $ 6 billion in R & D each year. In fact, do not be surprised if most of its revenue came from licensing, and more than $ 25 billion. total sales of IBM are about $ 82 billion.

This is where IBM has always been headed. Its products were only for platforms of most inventions. Once enough patented inventions, such as the Thinkpad, which sold out of the product range and moves to something else is received. At this time, it is artificial intelligence and cloud computing.

Products like Watson are in the news to keep thinking that IBM is actually a product of society and not the equivalent of a massive patent troll institutionalized.

The company may have started this process long before the days of the IBM PC. Probably not hard, semiconductors, laptops, the hard operating company systems or software of any kind, including social networking sites like Twitter, you do not pay IBM fees.

In other words, with this business model, IBM will not make short-term bankruptcy.

Trump And Forget Clinton: IBM Watson Is Running For President

Would we be better off with an algorithmic controlled sir?

If the CEOs of companies can be replaced by computers, why not the President of the United States? That, in fact, is exactly what has been proposed for IBM Watson.

Watson has already made a name for himself, of course, going back to his 2011 victory on Jeopardy. Since then, it has gone on to make medical predictions, critique written text and provide an overview of product performance, among other achievements.

Now a group called the Watson Foundation 2016 - which "has no affiliation with IBM," according to its Web site Watson Presidency - was created to help promote the presidential prospects of cognitive equipment.

Watson was designed to compete with humans by understanding the issue, using the key to analyze large amounts of data and get the best information possible answers, the group says. "This is a task for all political suffer daily, including the chairman, and may be more appropriately and effectively performed by artificial intelligence," said Watson for President.

"Watson capabilities for parallel processing in a given consultation to assess concerns about a variety of measures to evaluate the most beneficial response in all areas," the site says. "Watson can advise on the best options for any decisions based on their impact on the global economy, the environment, education, health care, foreign policy and civil liberties."

Ready to welcome the new lord AI? You can keep your wallet in your pocket for now: The 2016 Watson Foundation accepts donations at this time and does not intend in the foreseeable future.

"IBM has made $ 12 million last year, so that the public contributions are not needed for further investigation of Watson," said the site.

People who want to support Watson are encouraged to donate to the Electronic Frontier Foundation instead.

Meanwhile, although it is clearly a blow, the effort also provides some food for thought.

"Just in the same way that humans have facial expressions to convey emotions, the Watson visual change to express their level of trust in a selected response," the Foundation Website notes. "The country will be better if all politicians were so transparent?"

So I vote Watson? Share your views in an ongoing survey on the website of Watson for President.

IBM Buys Aperto In Germany To Build Its Digital Imaging Business

Another day, another IBM acquisition. Big Blue announced its intention to buy Aperto, a digital agency based in Berlin. Aperto will become part of the interactive experience of IBM ( "IBM iX") - one of a series of services that IBM was built as part of the new wave of company business. New Aperto literally just days after IBM announced it would buy another digital marketing agency, resources / Ammirati, based in the US

Last week, IBM has also completed the acquisition of the company by its high business time AI data and Watson. As with previous agreements, financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed today.

Aperto gives IBM a loan together with customers for use in Europe and working with digital agency in areas such as website and application development, as well as major projects of the Digital Agenda. The client list includes biggies like the Group of Airbus, VW and Siemens.

It will also give IBM is a way to create another point of contact with large companies that either are already working with IBM on the other computer services or integration projects - or could potentially consider doing it now that they are already working with IBM in front-end projects through Aperto.

As IBM built other commercial partnerships with the likes of Apple, there is no doubt call to provide more experience - and work - about the task of designing and building mobile applications and other digital experiences, which will help fill that need, also.

It is also another step forward for IBM in the development of its business in whole organisms. The company says IBM iX is already the largest in the world digital agency - which is not too much of a surprise given that the fragmentation of the world remains, despite all and large movements of the giant purchasing pub as WPP and Publicis Accenture companies to develop their own tracks in this space.

"IBM iX is a world leader in the design of the experiment, which is becoming an essential part of any business strategy," said Paul Papas, global leader, IBM interactive experience, in a statement. "We are honored to partner with Aperto and look forward to reshape the future of the company and digital innovation with our customers in Germany and beyond. "

It seems that the acquisition is one of the customers, but also current employees.

"We are proud to remain at the forefront of the digital revolution. After 20 years in the industry, we are proud to collaborate with IBM iX, the world's largest digital agency, to continue to do that," said Dirk Buddensiek, CEO, Aperto said in a statement. "Among the talent that sits in the ninth team and the transformation of IBM working in cognitive space, and leadership in cloud, mobile and analysis, this time many doors for our team and customers it will open."

It is not known if Aperto raised any outside funding before sale, which is not too surprising: organizations, unlike many other new businesses tend to generate income from day one and therefore start their business.

According to IBM, the deal is expected to close in the first quarter of 2016, subject to review of the applicable regulations and customary closing conditions.

IBM Tops 2015 Patent List (Again)

For 23 consecutive years, IBM's annual list of the largest recipients of US patents IFI, bagging 7,355 patents in 2015.

This, however, holds the first year since 2007 patent activity decreased in general. IBM same final tally fell short of the previous record year of 7534.

"After seven years of prolific patent growth, 2015 saw the first sign of acceleration," Mike Baycroft, IFI Claims Patent Services CEO, said in a statement. "I would not say, however, that the patent is that many companies continue to decline over the previous year patents crank."

Rest of the top 10 is largely a matter of technology: Samsung, Canon, Qualcomm, Google, Toshiba, Sony, LG, Intel and Microsoft. Apple landed in 11th place, up from General Electric, Toyota, Panasonic, and Amazon (who just missed the top 25).

IBM's focus in 2015 was on cognitive and cloud computing, which together raised more than 2,000 patents related inventions.

IBM China Research Laboratory, for example, has patented a system that helps interpret machines emotionally charged words, leaving computers chat with people in more natural ways. The inventors also work to teach the cloud to extract resources from more places, allowing you to run faster and more efficiently.

Not all computers and artificial intelligence to IBM exam dumps, however. The company also wants to transform industries like travel and medicine. A patent advice a way to detect the language spoken most often between a group of travelers, and results published in these languages. Other highlights of cognitive systems that help health professionals to identify treatment options based on the evidence for patients.

"For 23 years IBM high on the list of patents, inventors of the company received more than 88,000 patents in the United States," said CEO Ginni Rometty in a statement. "Patent leadership of IBM demonstrates our unparalleled commitment to R & D necessary to stimulate fundamental progress in business and society."

IBM noted the more than 8,500 inventors in the United States and abroad that have driven the company to his tally last patent in 2015; those living outside the United States contributed more than 36 percent of the patent last year.
